Inside your window

More than a pane of glass.

Insulated glass · Not to scale

2 glass panes · 1 air space · Breather tubes, not argon fill

Glass panes

The glass layers

Two panes enclose one air space; three panes enclose two. Glass thickness and safety treatment are specified for the opening—not every opening needs the same glass.

AI design concept · Not an installation plan

Changing style or frame finish may require full window replacement; glass-only replacement retains the existing frame. Greg must confirm available services, dimensions, safety requirements, and feasibility. AI images cannot show or verify Low-E performance, insulation, or noise reduction. Built for the Western Slope

Glass that knows the altitude.

High-elevation sun, thin air and freezing nights change how windows should be built. Here's what goes into yours — and why.

No argon at altitude

Down on the Front Range, insulated glass gets filled with argon gas. Up here it can't be sealed in — the thinner air makes the sealed unit swell and bow. Mountain units are built with breather tubes: tiny capillary vents that let the pressure equalize without letting moisture in.

Solarban 60

A soft-coat Low-E that blocks summer heat gain but still lets in plenty of winter sun. The all-around choice for most Western Slope homes. Sourced from Old Castle Building Envelope and Trulite.

ComfortSelect

Tuned for colder mountain climates. It holds more of your indoor heat in through long winters while still blocking UV that fades floors and furniture. Sourced from Trulite.

Energy Advantage

A hard-coat Low-E that handles rough handling and scratches better. A solid budget-friendly option that still upgrades an old clear unit. Sourced from Old Castle Building Envelope.

Cardinal Low-E

The industry benchmark for clarity and consistency — sourced from Elevation Glass. Fair warning: Cardinal runs a six-week lead time or more, so plan window replacements ahead instead of in a hurry.

Annealed glass

Standard float glass with no heat treatment. It breaks into large, sharp shards — fine for picture frames and some cabinet doors, but not code-legal near doors, floors or tubs.

Tempered glass

Heated and rapidly cooled so it's about four times stronger than annealed. When it does break, it crumbles into small, blunt pebbles instead of shards. Required by code in showers, doors and windows near the floor.

Heat-strengthened glass

The in-between option — about twice as strong as annealed and far more resistant to thermal stress from intense high-altitude sun. It breaks in large pieces like annealed, so it's used where strength matters but safety glazing isn't required.
